Why do we need accreditation?

Track cycling and particularly racing carries an element of risk, some of this is due to the combination of a steep banked track, the use of specialised equipment and the risk of mechanical mishap or equipment failure.

The biggest risk is rider error, the evidence is clear that this can be reduced significantly by skills instruction, practice and repetition with frequent reviews of the skill acquisition.

Accreditation is one part of a systemic approach to encouraging and developing safe track racers whilst making their use of the velodrome safer and more enjoyable.

Accreditation also provides  valuable “peace of mind” to know that the rider leaning on your shoulder as you thunder round the banking at 70 kilometers an hour has had proper instruction so as they can be fast AND safe !

Accreditation is now a requirement at all UK wooden velodromes.
